METROPOLIS AT THE HEART OF EUROPE
Characteristics of Frankfurt am Main are captivating contrasts, like traditional and modern, commerce and culture, bustle and quiet.
Its reputation as an international city has been created by international trade fairs, financial business and cultural life, together with its central position.
It boasts a famous skyline with more skyscrapers than any other city in Germany, primarily buildings housing the many German and foreign banks which, with the Stock Exchange, German Bundesbank and European Central Bank, have made the city the leading financial venue in Germany.
Frankfurt is a city with a trade fair tradition going back 750 years. Today’s trade fair centre is located in the west of the city, offering some 475,000 square metres of exhibition space in 10 large halls for Frankfurt’s national and international fairs. The best-known and most popular are the Frankfurt Book Fair and the International Automobile Show (IAA).
Art and Culture
Along both sides of the River Main from the "Museumsufer" a total of 14 museums strung together like pearls in a necklace and representing the synthesis of a premium cultural programme and good town planning.
The new buildings and extensions are jewels designed by outstanding architects of international standing – the Museum of Modern Art, the German Museum of Architecture or the Museum for Communication.
What is more? Frankfurt is the ideal starting point for short tourist excursions easy to reach and attractive destinations like the Taunus, Spessart and Odenwald regions or famous towns like Heidelberg, Wiesbaden or Mainz or the romantic Rheingau area with its castles and vineyards.
