Among the numerous touristic routes following special traditions and offering plenty of attractions, the “Goethestrasse” or Goethe Route from Frankfurt via Fulda, Eisenach, Gotha, Ilmenau, Erfurt, Jena and Weimar to Leipzig certainly takes a special position. Its length is nearly 400 km, but even more interesting is its history, because it was an old and very important trade route known as “ The King’s Road” or the “Via Regia”, running from Paris right across the European continent to Kiev.
Following the "Goethestrasse", tourists will discover charming and envigorating scenery and learn a lot of what is worth knowing about traditions and life in towns and villages along the route, about places which were often enough directly linked with Goethe’s or an other famous person’s life.
