Augustinian Monastery
Luther memorial with church, exhibition and conference centre. Martin Luther lived here as a monk from 1505-1511.

Petersberg Citadel
The only almost completely preserved
Baroque town fortress with a labyrinth of underground mine passages in the historic Old Town. Always accessible for visitors from the outside. Imperial Ballroom
It was originally built in 1715 as a university ballroom and is now a conference and events centre. The Congress of Princes was held here in 1808, of which participants included Napoleon Bonaparte. Formerly used for concerts by Clara Schumann-Wieck, Liszt, Paganini, first performance of „Don Carlos“ by Friedrich Schiller. Visits available for special parties as part of a city sightseeing tour (if no events are being held) by appointment with Erfurt Tourist Company. City Hall
Neo-Gothic building (built 1870-74), numerous original paintings on staircase walls and city festival hall, with pictures relating to Goethe’s Faust, Wagner’s Tannhäuser, to Luther’s life and about the history of the city from its foundation in 742 through to the time when the City Hall was built.

Governor’s Residence
Former seat of the Mainz governor (magnificent Baroque and Renaissance building). In 1808 Napoleon Bonaparte met Goethe here. Today it is the seat of the Minister- President of Thuringia.
